The incredible, floatable egg

We had a little science lesson today about density. All it took was an egg, a glass, salt and a spoon.

First take the egg and carefully drop it in. Will it sink or float?

Then, start adding salt to the egg, stir until salt dissolves. Keep adding it until you see the egg start to float in the water.

You can talk about why the egg initially sinks, and then floats as the makeup of the water changes. We also talked about the same effect in the Dead Sea.
