Why Des Moines is awesome...

Headlines like this in the local paper:

Brassieres disappear from Victoria's Secret

REGISTER STAFF REPORTS

Fifty brassieres have been stolen from Victoria's Secret at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines.

Des Moines police list no suspects in the undergarment theft, which occurred sometime between 10 a.m. Saturday and noon Monday.

The bras were various sizes and colors. Police listed an estimated value of $2,000.

Meanwhile, a store spokesman for Walgreens at 1330 E. University Ave. reported a bold theft of a toothbrush. A police report said a man entered the store about 5 p.m. and went straight to the aisle with electric toothbrushes.

He grabbed a toothbrush and ran out the door to a white car with a get-away driver. Other Walgreens stores in the area were notified in case the thief tried to return it for cash at another store, police said.

Electric Slide

I had a class this morning and Ankeny and let Alex play on the playground afterwards. He climbed right up and slid down the big slide by himself like a pro. Mom was nervously watching close by, but he did great and loved it! He then proceeded to repeat it about 7 times before I finally had to drag him back to the car to get home. I didn't have my camera, so I used my cell phone. This kid is getting so big!

Awesome, Dude!

These videos were taken tonight so please excuse the darkness, we just couldn't get over Alex saying the word "awesome" today. As I was buckling him into his car seat, it sounded like he said "awesome" so I said it and he repeated it...and kept on repeating it throughout the day. Tonight I decided to get him on camera saying it, and I said "Say awesome dude!" and lo and behold, he starts saying "dude!" Pretty cool --- my son can't talk in short sentences yet, but by god, he knows his slang! Priorities...

AWESOME!

First Rock Concert

Alex got to go to his first concert on Saturday! He saw Justin Roberts and the Not Yet Ready for Nap Time Players. They put on quite a show for the kids (and the parents). Good times!

Pluck of the Irish - Photo of the Day

Well, our moms group had planned to have a big float for the DM St. Pat's Day parade. As luck (or lack of it) would have it, it was 35 and a steady rain for the parade. We ditched the idea of the trailer with the float, as none of us really wanted to sit out in the rain for an hour and a half, so we stuck to decorating the cars and staying dry and cozy in our cars, chucking candy at the crowds. Here is our little leprechaun, he spent most of the parade sitting on his mom's lap, watching everyone and everything, and helping with the candy tossing. He then promptly fell asleep on the way home!

Starbucks: building brand loyalty at birth!
Alex is fascinated by Starbucks coffee cups, so much so that it is hard for me to finish mine while around him. I have to rinse out my cup and then give it to him - he loves to carry it around and pretend to drink out of it!

No More Mullet - Photos of the Day

We'll make up for Friday by posting two photos today. We finally broke down and cut Alex's hair - he doesn't have much, but the back was getting a little long.

Before - You can see the obvious "party in the back" here.

After - What a nice, tight looking 'do!

Change the name to 36poundcat.com?

Lincoln getting weighed at the vet's office. He's actually gone down about a pound from a month ago. Now he's 36 lbs., 8 oz., from 37 lbs., 7 oz. The vet wants to get him down to 30 lbs. I agree...

Yankee Doodle Baby!

Mr. Alex is getting his patriotism on!

While he took a three-hour nap yesterday, mom worked on some stuff around the house and in honor of the holiday caught a few episodes of this:

The Revolution

Very cool - I think I'm going to get the DVD set as I am a history geek and love that kind of stuff (had to make a side-trip to Concord, MA in New England to see the first fight of the Revolutionary War)

Dad was busy indulging in some 80's nerd-stalgia -

The Only Fun (Food) of It's Kind...

Iowa State Fair time here - the place that has every type of food-on-a-stick imaginable, plus other culinary oddities. This has to be the GROSSEST thing I've ever seen...and it was featured in the DM Register's version of Red Eye...Hot Beef Sundae in time for the State Fair!

I seriously threw up in mouth just looking at the picture...and I love the cherry tomato garnish...how clever.
