So, we made a marshmallow catapult today. We decorated it red and black, in honor of the Chicago Blackhawks, and nicknamed it "The Tomahawk"!

The incredible, floatable egg
We had a little science lesson today about density. All it took was an egg, a glass, salt and a spoon.
First take the egg and carefully drop it in. Will it sink or float?
Then, start adding salt to the egg, stir until salt dissolves. Keep adding it until you see the egg start to float in the water.
You can talk about why the egg initially sinks, and then floats as the makeup of the water changes. We also talked about the same effect in the Dead Sea.

Bookmark Monsters
For the weekend, we did a little project in conjunction with the library summer reading program we signed up for last week. Origami bookmarks - easy to make, fun to decorate, and can be used to save a spot in our book.

Squirt Gun Races
We had races with the pool squirt guns today using balls. We had to keep squirting the balls until they reached the other side of the pool. Alex beat Mom a few times at this one!

Milk Masterpieces
Today we painted with milk!
Milk, food coloring, dish soap and toothpicks are all you need! We discussed the science behind why the toothpick dipped in dish soap causes the colored swirls to "move" in the milk.

100-ish Days of Summer
My goal this summer is to do one little fun thing everyday with the kids and document it. We started summer vacation off yesterday with this, a paper cup version of the tin can telephone. It was fun to explain to a six-year-old who has only known cell phones and cordless land lines how the first telephones worked, and how you need to to keep the line nice and taut so you can "talk" to each other.
Today - we had an indoor picnic lunch when it was raining outside. Luckily, it cleared up shortly afterwards.

Halftime!
Our big guy is 6 1/2 years old, and we did a little surprise cake for him. He was born on Thanksgiving, so it can be tricky to have a birthday party around that weekend. We kept it very low key, just family, and we wanted to give him a little reminder of how special he is to us, plus he has been a big helper around the house with the younger two. Happy Half Birthday, Alex, you're a week away from being an official first grader too!

One month and then some...
I turned one month old on May 3! I like to try to lift my head up, eat, sleep, move my arms, and just basically get cuddled and held! Mom thinks that my eyes are going to stay blue like my brother and sister's.

Two under two for two weeks...
When I was pregnant with Andrew, we realized that we would have a short time with two kids under two. It turned out to be 15 days exactly. She is doing a really great with her new baby brother and calls him "Candy" and "baby". She loves to "help" with a blanket or pacifier, and is pretty good with being gentle.
This week we had a joint appointment at the pediatrician's office - one for a two-week-old, and one for a two-year-old. Both received great reviews from the doctor, both are fine and healthy, which we couldn't be more happy and grateful for.
Little buddy likes to sleep and eat, and is the easiest, most laid-back little guy. He has started opening his eyes more and looking around. He is such a little sweetie and reminds me so much of Alex as a newborn.
Ah, this one. She is such a little firecracker. She is in the crazy toddler phase where she gets into everything and has to see/do/touch/ all the things! She is so, so sweet, smart and doesn't miss a thing. I still can't believe this kid is two years old now, it has flown by so quickly!
This past weekend, Grandma and Grandpa Hennig came to see baby Andrew and also help Greer celebrate her birthday. We had a cake, ice cream and some presents. She ended up getting two parties for two years.
And one picture of Grandma Dianne with two of her (seven) grandsons!
